ister Schools is a Benjamin Franklin House programme linking schools in London with their counterparts in the United States.
For a period of four weeks, children participate in a fun and collaborative curriculum based on the amazing life of Benjamin Franklin – particularly his years in London and his efforts to strengthen Anglo-American relations. Themes include our shared heritage, citizenship, and science and innovation.
To support participating teachers, we have a dedicated Sister Schools portal where articles, drawings, photographs, and videos produced by partner schools are posted and shared.
The first school pairings took place in February/March 2011. Risley Avenue Primary School from Tottenham, London linked with PS 244 (Richard R. Green School) in Brooklyn, New York. Surrey Square Primary School from Southwark, London linked with PS 255 (Barbara Reing School) also in Brooklyn, New York. Approximately 300 children took part.
Sister Schools is made possible with the support of the New York Historical Society and Britain’s Big Lottery Fund.
